The Red Thread
The red thread represents passion or energy moving through a form. Zen master Ikkyu named a particular practice Red Thread Zen, in which passion could be a road to enlightenment. The Red Thread series incorporates the third dimension, as the works undulate out towards the viewer. Thin mulberry paper (tengujo) that resembles silk is dyed in gradations and is used to create numerous veils and transparent layers.
